Jan van Schaik is an artist and architect based in Melbourne.

Registered Architect in Victoria.
BArch. PhD. AIA. ARBV 18658

Jan's architectural practice explores the coded meaning of architectural geometry, views architecture as an integral function of city design, utilizes semiotic narratives as tools for transformative collaboration, and employs conceptual thinking as a method of coordination.

In his art practice, he experiments with the paradox of object versus concept, examines the function of aesthetics, explores the constraints of intuition, and investigates the tension between monumentality and play.

Beyond his art practice, Jan runs an award-winning architecture firm, conducts creative-practice research, serves as an educator, and acts as a strategic advisor to the creative and cultural industries.

The walls and ceilings of his home and studio are densely adorned with a salon-style display of artworks, featuring pieces by generations of family members and works by admired heroes and peers collected since childhood.
