Installation and handling

Each Lost Tablet is unique, and is made from reconfigured Lego. The glue residue, pen markings, teeth marks, and other detritus from the former use of the Lego pieces has been deliberately left in place on each work.

Their dimensions are generally 19cm wide, 24.5cm high, and 5cm deep, but vary slightly in some cases.

Each Lost Tablet is fixed with magnets to a circular base. The material of the bases vary, depending on which work they support, and are made from either Oregon, Bluestone, or powder-coated steel — which is in some instances white, and in other instances colour matched to a work.

Images and descriptions of the various displays can be viewed below and also in the display gallery.

The Lost Tablets can be handled without white gloves, however the constituent building blocks are deliberately not glued together. Frequent handling may lead to temporary, yet easily rectifiable, destabilisation.

The repurposed Lego, from which the tablets are made, is waterproof, but some colours have minor light sensitivity.

Timber Base

This timber base is custom made from oregon wood.

Glass Dome

This hand-blown glass dome allows the Lost Tablet to be installed in close proximity to other objects — and to protect them from dust.

Plinth

In a gallery context, the Lost Tablets are often displayed on a 1200mm tall cylindrical plinth. The plinths are finished in white, or colour matched to the objects depending on the display context.

Steel base (wall mount)

The powder coated steel bases can be altered for a variety of contexts including wall mounting. In some instances they are white, and in other instances they are colour matched to a work.

Steel base (flat)

The flat steel base plate is for displays on plinths and tables.

Steel base (folded down)

The folded down steel base is designed for installing the works on a shelf — ideally where the shelf has a thick edge to act as a back-drop to the folded down lip.

Steel base (folded up)

This steel base folds up at the rear to allow the Lost Tablet to be displayed on a narrow shelf.
